The first is to provide its viewers with the best in
entertainment programming: "Nollywood" dramas, Telenovalas,
the best of "Bollywood", American and English produced
features, sitcoms, & soaps, faith-oriented content, and
in-house commissioned light entertainment programming.
The second is to provide a schedule
of high quality educational programming with content that
informs and inspires. ABN has secured partnering sub-distribution
commitments in-principle, from major public service broadcasters
and programme producers in the US. It also hopes to co-produce
original educational programming.
For example, excluding South Africa,
ABN has secured sub-distribution access to the current libraries
of WGBH and WNET for sub-Saharan Africa. None of these has
hitherto been shown on free-to-air television outside of South
Africa.
ABN plans to produce a range of popular international formats,
which, informed by careful audience research, will appeal
to millions of its viewers across Africa. Through its close
working relationship with the International Academy of Television
Arts & Sciences, ABN is also working towards establishing
important relationships with the rights owners of other popular
television entertainment programming and formats.
ABN will continue to vigorously pursue other vital programme
sub-distribution deals that will grant it access to a range
of quality educational and entertainment programmes that have
not as yet been seen anywhere on the African continent.
