ABN’s objective is to develop the growing commercial opportunity within sub-Saharan Africa’s free-to-air television markets outside of South Africa by:

  • Aggregating terrestrial free-to-air television airtime, through commercial joint-venture partnerships, into a series of uniform programming belts in order to facilitate and sustain a financially viable programme barter syndication system.
  • Significantly boosting television advertising revenues, via the generation of credible audience research which will verify the value of investments made by partner broadcasters into ABN’s barter-driven, airtime sales network.
  • Facilitating, in parallel, the development of a public service TV programming network that will attract international sponsorship by disseminating development-inspiring knowledge into millions of homes across sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Generating – through the African Public Broadcasting Foundation - a dynamic broadcast infrastructure and skills development initiative, aimed at improving the delivery capacities and professionalism of the continent’s television industry, encompassing both state-owned and private broadcasters.
